Swiss Family Robinson

One night not very long ago, my husband and I found ourselves watching Swiss Family Robinson, a beloved classic movie of our youth. As we laughed at the corny--yet undoubtedly cool--lives of this shipwrecked family, we once again divulged aloud our shared fantasy of one day living aboard a boat and cruising with our kids. We had indulged in this exchange several times in previous years, but it had always ended with "Yep, some day."

However, in the manner of deep conversation that can only result from watching a Disney film, our most recent dialogue concerning the subject went something like this:

"We should sh*t or get off the pot."
"Well, we do live in Florida now..."
"Let's just do it then."
"...but my sailing experience lies mainly in turtling dinghies."
"Good enough for me."
"Uh, hmm....well, screw it. Sounds like fun to me!"

And thus, our adventure began.

So here we are, at the beginning of the next chapter...Dad, Mum, Mads (our 3 year old daughter), and Baby T (our 8 month old son). One little family, one little (or perhaps not-so-little) dream.

Our goal? At the end of our lease on this apartment (Feb 2012), we'll move full-time aboard a sailboat. And perhaps, if all goes well, we may just end up sailing around the world someday after all. (Although I do hope that pirates and tigers won't be involved.)

We invite you to join us on our journey of leaving life ashore and moving aboard a sailboat. It will be nothing if not an exciting (and sometimes hilarious) challenge.
